Theatres
Oulu City Theatre
www.ouka.fi/teatteri
With ten new opening nights a year and actors fully
immersed in their parts an impressive 350 times a year
with a total of 80,000 pairs of eyes watching them, they
must be doing something right. This is how acting should
be. At least the crowd thinks so. Come and see for
yourself!
Oulun Työväen Näyttämö Theatre

Ever wondered what the mood would be like in an army
movie theatre during a romantic movie? Or did people use
to get wild about war movies here? Well, this place has
been transformed from an army movie theatre to a modern
cinema, but sometimes you can catch yourself thinking
about how it must’ve been here back in the days.
Oulu Theatre of University Students
http://www.oulunyt.tk
Young and powerful acting and bold ways of thinking.
That’s what the Oulu Theatre of University Students has
stood for always, challenging the professional theatres
and their occasionally inflexible ways.
Akseli Klonk Puppet Theatre

A good puppet theatre is hard to find! The kids deserve
the best, and that’s what the Akseli Klonk Puppet
Theatre offers. But what are these “equipment theatre
plays” they talk about?
Meri Oulu
http://www.merioulu.fi
If you put 2,600 friends of summer theatre in the old
factory setting of Toppila, added a touch of beautiful
weather and cheery mood, what would that look like from
outer space? Well, if you could see it all the way there.
Down here on Earth we can at least tell you that the
roofed stands and a restaurant with enough space to
serve 1,000 guest will guarantee you a pleasant Finnish
summer theatre experience.
Neliapila Theatre
http://www.ouka.fi/yhdistykset/neliapila
According to the amateur actor members of the Neliapila
Theatre, seeing plays about the history of Finland and
Oulu is the second best thing you can do on sunny summer
nights. Since the summer of 1992, their history plays
have been played out at the Turkansaari outdoor museum
area.
Movies
Finnkino Plaza
http://www.finnkino.fi/cinemas/oulu/Plaza
For modern cinema, the Finnkino Plaza is the right place
you need.
The largest cinema seats up to 410 people with a screen
of 141 m2. It doesn’t get any better this.
Star Movie Theatre
http://www.elokuvateatteristar.com
To some of us here in Oulu, the Star is the one and only
true movie theatre. This family business in Tuira is
flexible and will, for example, grant students a
one-euro discount on normal priced movie tickets.
Cinema Studio Valve

The Oulu Cinema Centre Association has since 1973 been
spreading the message that movies, too, are a form of
art. And important pieces of culture. Not to mention
part of everybody’s media upbringing. Knowing the
history of film is not only fun, it’s also important and
necessary.
